Special Events & How We Help Others
Remember to come back to this page regularly to look at some of the special visitors that we have had to school and the special days that we have had.
Halloween Party

Hallowe’en Night proved once again, after an enforced break of a few years, that Horizon PTA organises the best Hallowe’en Party in Dubai! Well done to all the committee and their willing band of helpers and supporters. Well done to all parents who had put so much effort into their children’s costumes – and their own! Everyone looked great and a good time was had by all.

A special thank you goes to those parents who did such an amazing clean-up job afterwards with Mr Darwish, Mr Pandi, Mr Mani and Mr Mahhendra.

Fundraising for Romania( 2009)

A huge thank you to everyone who donated money to Romania before the summer holidays! Between Safa and Horizon we raised an astonishing AED 55,000 which was enough to pay for a new roof for the Isaiah Centre and some clothes and toys for the children! The Director of the Centre, Rachel Ross, and all of the children are so grateful for the amazing support you have shown. Over the past few years we have raised over AED 175,000. This money has been used to buy a minivan for transporting children from the village to the Centre to provide them with respite from the abuse and neglect at home. We have bought bunk beds, clothes, food and daily supplies that are much needed to keep the Centre running. The children have loved the swimming costumes, clothes and toys that have been donated by families at Horizon.

Please have a look at the display of pictures near the Early Years area to see where all your donations have gone. I will be showing a video of my time in Romania soon – keep an eye out on the daily letters for the date and time!

Thank you for your ongoing support!

Fundraising at Horizon School

This year Horizon School has done an incredible job raising money to support many different charities. We have held a toy sale for Gaza, sponsored one of our Shareholders to do a bike ride for Helping Hands Orphanage in Cambodia, held a Dinner Dance and a Silent Auction of children’s pictures for All As One in Sierra Leone, held a free dress pyjama day for an orphanage in Nepal and most recently the children took part in a triathlon for Romania! Your support has made a huge difference to the lives of many children around the world.

Speaking from personal experience I can see how much all of the money we have raised for Romania has helped. Last year we raised enough to buy a minivan for the Isaiah Centre. The volunteers can now pick up abandoned and abused children from the villages to give them comfort, love and safety at the centre. They can take children and adults to the doctors and distribute much needed supplies to families in the villages. This year the money we are raising will go to providing more beds for the centre to enable them to take in more children, a new roof for the centre to keep the children warm and dry in the winter and food and supplies for families.

Thank you to everyone who has helped with organising fundraising events and to all of you who have supported us so generously this year!

Gaza Appeal
Horizon School raised an astonishing 36,362.75AED for the Gaza Appeal through various events such as sponsored walks, toy sales and free dress days. A superb effort all round. Money was donated to the children of Gaza via the Dubai Cares appeal.
Helping Hands - What do school shareholders do in their first year of retirement?

They cycle 420 kilometres across Cambodia to help children in need. Hamid and Debbie Summers took to this amazing task and their group raised enough money to build a house to support homeless children. Contributions are still being received for the on-going project if you would like to donate. Some charity monies collected in school will be donated. Enjoy the photographs. It is worth mentioning that the photo shows the children who will be cared for in the house. Sadly, two children are missing from the photo as they were stolen prior to it being taken. They may never be found but at least the other children have now been given a chance for a future. Please click here for further information from Gulf 4 Good.

Mary Poppins
The children in key stage two put on a performance of Mary Poppins. It was a thoroughly enjoyable show and included some terrific acting. Click on the image below to see more pictures.

Horizon School Girls Help Out Children in Sierra Leone

Horizon School girls Mia and Gemma Gardiner recently had a garage sale in which they sold all of their old toys and junk. The girls generously donated the 800AED that they raised to the All as One charity to help out orphaned children in Sierra Leone. The girls were very proud to hand over the proceeds to Ms Sincalir during assembly.

Sierra Leone's First Lady Visits School
We were honoured that Sierra Leone's first lady chose to visit our school in recognition of the fundraising work that we have done for All as One in Sierra Leone. The children put on a performnace of African drumming and singing for her and presented her with a gift to take back to our friends at the orphanage in Free Town.
