Swimming Days

Please do not send children to school with swim kit on, even if their lesson is early in the morning. Wearing tight fitting swimmers for even a few hours is hot and unhealthy and this is especially so if they wear them out to play. Also, as children normally go to the toilet before swimming, the all-in-one suits – which offer the best sun protection - are very difficult for young children to manage.

Thank You to PTA

Dear Parents

The International Fair was a huge success.  In the words of one of the teachers, “ I thought the international fair was absolutely fabulous! It was very well organized and very well supported. The children were excited to be at school and to explore all that was on offer. There was everything fr om face painting to drumming. It was wonderful to hear the cheeky banter between the different stalls and encouraging cust omers to try their tasty treats fr om their h ome country. There were many exciting games and stalls for all ages and a wonderful experience to be part of!”

A huge thank you to our wonderful PTA for organizing the event!

Birthdays

Please note that while we are happy to acknowledge children’s birthdays in school, time restrictions dictate that class celebrations are low-key. Birthday cakes are not permitted so, if you wish to send food in, please send individual items such as cup-cakes or biscuits - without nuts - which are easily distributed at the end of snack time or at home time.

These may be brought in at the start of the day or delivered later to the Receptionist who will ensure they are sent to class without disrupting the school day.

Horizon children and staff will all take part in a two minute silence on Sunday morning just before playtime. Although it will be discussed first in class, we thought you might wish to talk to your child about this campaign at home also. We shall encourage the children to think especially about the child they sponsor in Sierra Leone and the children in the Rumanian orphanage.

Arabic Timetable

Dear Parents,

For your information: -

We have decided to make a change to the timetabling of Arabic. The setting of classes has been causing issues across the school therefore Arabic will be taught in children’s register classes rather than in three differentiated groups. This means the Arabic teacher will differentiate within the class. This will not affect the ‘Regular’ Arabic teaching.

Kind regards

Meet the Teacher 4.30pm September 29th 2009

Please remember the meeting with your children’s teacher which will give you an opportunity to learn about the routines and expectations for the year ahead.

Please meet in the school hall where Ms Sinclair will address all parents promptly at 4.30pm in the hall before you go to individual classes.

Each teacher will give their talk twice for the benefit of parents with children in more than one year group.

Backpacks

Children in Foundation, Years 1&2 do not need a backpack – we do not believe their spines are not yet strong enough to carry any weight. A Book Bag and a Lunch Box is all they need. However, if you decide to let your child use a backpack, it must be the Horizon uniform one with the school logo please.

Children from Years 3-6 do require a backpack but please ensure that your child uses only a uniform backpack with the Horizon logo on it.

Please keep the wheels, Disneyland, Spiderman etc for home and weekend use. Thank you.

Important Notice

Dear Parents,

It is with deep sadness that we have to tell you that a dreadful tragedy befell one of our families over the Eid break. Maria Rizzotto in Year Four lost her little sister, Anna, in a swimming pool accident.

While nothing we can say or do will lessen the pain for Maria and her family, we know you will include them in your thoughts and prayers. Every parent’s heart will go out to them in their grief.

Flowers were sent from us all last Friday for Anna’s funeral in Italy.

Letter From All As One

Dear Friends of All As One,

We would like to wish you Ramadan Kareem and thank you for all your support!  We have achieved so much as a direct result of your donations and sponsorships and our children are benefiting more and more every day.  That does not mean we get a break, however, there is still plenty more to be done!

Last year at Ramadan, we asked you to consider hosting an All As One Iftar meal - and many of you did!  This year, we're once again requesting your help in raising support for All As One during this time of year.

Iftar is a time to bring friends and family together; to break the fast and reflect on what challenges this month brings to your own life.  The money spent on the Iftar gatherings this Ramadan could go to help give a special child enough food and care.  Why not have a cost effective Iftar this year?

·         Don’t splash out on an expensive venue, have it at home. Invite all your family and friends to break the fast at your pad and have an All As One themed evening.

·         Make your own – instead of buying ready-made dishes, buy the ingredients and have fun in the kitchen making up the concoctions.  This not only saves money, but is much healthier as well.

·         Instead of your friends bringing a gift or a dish to add to the buffet, have them donate the difference to your All As One bucket.  Your friends can even donate online at: http://www.aaodubai.org/donate.php

Attached to this email, we have provided some delicious recipes that are quick and easy, to make sure that breaking the fast at your Iftar is the event of the season!  Thank you for supporting us in making this a wonderful time for the children in Sierra Leone too!

 Warmest Regards,

 Matthew Morgan-Jones

Country Director, Dubai
