Year 6 Production

Dear Parents,

The End of Year production is now in full swing, with all the children busy learning their roles.

We would like to say thank you to all those people who came to the meeting last Thursday and to everyone who has volunteered to help with costumes and scenery.

Two lovely, lovely parents (We weren't paid to say that!) have very kindly taken control of costuming. In order to ensure all the children are dressed in a similar style, they have been and sourced costumes for everyone.

Could we therefore, please ask for a donation of 40 dhs for each child, to cover some of the cost of the costumes.  The costume (traditional Indian dress) would then belong to each of you, unless you would like to donate it to the school. ;) The school will be covering the remainder of the costs.

Whilst we appreciate that a number of the children may have their own traditional Indian dress, we feel it is important to have uniformity in style and colour, in order to have a wonderful looking production.

We would like to thank you once again for your co-operation and all the suport we have received so far (Please don't stop!)

If you have any questions please contact either of us.

We all look forward to seeing you on the big night (or before if you are available to help out!)

Mr. Bebbington and Miss Williamson.

Princesses and Superheroes Party – how was it?

To all KS1 and EY families,

Many of you attended the Princesses and Superheroes party last week.  I hope everyone had a good time!

We would really like to hear how you and the Yr1 & 2 children thought the afternoon went, so please could you take a few minutes to complete the attached form.  Your comments and the children's comments will help to make it even better next year.  Even if you didn’t attend, it would be useful to know why (perhaps we need to change the time or day?).

Many thanks

New Invoice Layout

Dear Parents / Guardians,

We installed a new school management system in February as part of the internal growth at Horizon School.  As a result of this new system the layout of our invoices and receipts have changed as some of you may have noticed?

Please note that it is no longer possible to change these invoices to suit certain parents or companies.  If your company does pay the school fees then you will need to explain that we have upgraded our system and this is how the invoices will be from now on.

We thank you for your understanding and cooperation in this matter

To all Horizon families,

Welcome back to the final term of this school year!  Before we know it the summer holidays will be here.  Before that happens we have a couple of fun events at school and I am looking for help to organise them.  If you can help, please come along to the meetings or, if you cannot make the meetings, then call me on 050 598 4607.

Early Years/KS1 Party

This is a party for our younger students – Foundation up to Year 2.  It is a fun afternoon of music, games and tasty snacks.  We need help organising posters, tickets, music, food, drinks and games.  If you can help, please come along to a meeting on Wednesday 30th April at 12 noon at school. We will also be deciding the date and theme for the party.

KS2 Inter-house Quiz and Disco

For the students in Years 3 to 6 there is the annual inter-house quiz.  The first rounds are done during school. The final is held in the evening and is followed by a disco! We need help organising quiz questions and running the quizzes as well as food, drink and music for the disco.  If you can help, please come to a meeting on Thursday 1st May at 12 noon at school.

The more people who offer to help the less each has to do, so please help out!!  See you next week. Jane.

To all Year 6 families,

Well, our children have finally reached their last term at Horizon School.   In order to send our children off in great style, please can you come along to meeting on THURSDAY 1st MAY at 7:45am at school to help plan and organise events.

Traditionally, Year 6 say farewell to the school and to each other with two events.

Firstly, there is the Year 6 production – going to be The Jungle Book this year I believe.  For that we will need lots of help from Year 6 parents to make props, scenery and costumes. You don’t need to be artistic to help!

Secondly, there is the Year 6 farewell party.  This is held at a venue outside of school.  The Boathouse at Mina Seyahi has been tentatively booked for the Thursday 19th June from 6-9pm.  If you have any other ideas for a venue, please let us know.

We also need to discuss whether any farewell gifts should be organised so we can do it in good time.

If you can’t make the meeting, please contact your class mum (Jane Vail for 6L and Cindy Connold for 6F) so we can include any views you may have.

Hope to see you all there!

Jane and Cindy

To all Year 1 & 2,

On Wednesday 19 th March there will be a bake sale immediately after school. The cakes are to be provided by Year 1 & 2 and the money raised will be spent on items for those classes.

Please can everyone bring in a plate of goodies on Wednesday morning (if you want your container returned please make sure it is clearly marked with your child’s name and class). Cupcakes/brownies/muffins sell better than whole cakes.

We also need volunteers to help price up and sell items on the day (12 noon onwards for pricing, 1pm onwards for selling). If you can help, please contact your class mum or Jane Vail (050 598 4607). The more helpers, the easier it is!!

Many thanks for your support!

Dear Parents,

The children who have attended the after-school Beginners’ French lessons have enjoyed their introduction to another language with Ms Karine and have decided to continue lessons until the end of this term.

They are also willing to organise another Beginners session next term if there are a further ten students interested in forming a new group. This group would meet at 1.30 on Thursday afternoons starting on 1 st May.

The cost in each case will be approximately 30 dirhams an hour, depending on numbers.

If your child is interested in continuing or in joining the new group, please let me know by March 20 th.

To all Horizon families

Do you enjoy the social events at Horizon School?

Do you like having a Swap Shop for uniforms?

If yes, then we need you!!!

The events organised by the PTA and the running of the Uniform Swap Shop are enjoyable and useful aspects of life at Horizon School, and will hopefully continue for a long time yet.

However, both Jane Vail and Cindy Connold will be “retiring” from their roles in PTA and Uniform Swap Shop at the end of the school year, so volunteers are needed to take on running the PTA and/or the Swap Shop!

If you would be interested, please contact Cindy (050 348 5648) or Jane (050 598 4607).  We will be happy to work with you to show you what we do currently and prepare for next year.

Hope to hear from lots of parents!!

Jane Vail

To all Year 5 & 6 families,

After our first attempt was rained off, we are now planning the bake sale for Thursday 21st Feb (just before half term break). I think this will make a lovely start to the mini holiday.

Please can everyone contribute some baking – cupcakes, muffins and brownies are always very popular!

All profits will go directly to the Year 5 & 6 teachers to spend on items for the year 5 & 6 classes.

We also need helpers!!  Firstly, from 12noon to 1pm to price up the cakes and prepare for the sale, and then secondly, from 1pm to about 1:45 to sell the cakes and clear away afterwards.  If we can have 2 helpers from each class for each shift, it will make the work easy!  If you can help, please contact your class mum (see list below).

To all Horizon teachers and families,Thank you to everyone for making the International Fair such a success.  We raised a fantastic 8000 dirhams and everyone seemed to have a good time as well! My particular thanks to all the table organisers on doing such a great job. The displays were colourful and the food fantastic!  Thanks to all the parents who actively contributed by cooking, helping to set up and working on the stalls. The time and effort you have given is appreciated.  Thanks to Bev Strathearn for running the Tombola – always very popular – and to all those who generously contributed prizes. Many thanks also to the teachers too who organised fun games and activities for the children. Judging by the money raised they were very busy indeed!  And finally thanks to Mr Darwish, Mr Pandy and Mr Mani without whom we would be lost!  Their cheerful help in setting up, organising the table deliveries and the hard task of clearing up is unequalled and we are so appreciative of their efforts. With that event over, we are now looking forward to the next events:Thursday Feb 14th 6-8pm is the KS2 Spring Fling disco!Thursday Feb 21st 1pm is the Bake Sale (Year 5 & 6 providing the goodies)Friday 7th March 9-12 is the Second Hand Sale

Winter UniformDear Parents, As the weather is a little cooler now, children are permitted to wear school uniform tracksuit trousers in the morning but these must be removed in class as the school is kept at a comfortably warm temperature. Therefore, boys – and girls on PE days – must wear shorts under the tracksuit pants. Please remember that only uniform cardigans and/or sweatshirts may be worn in school and that all other winter wear must be removed before entering class. All items are available from Zaks Uniform shop in the Beach Centre. Although Zaks have no cardigans in the smaller sizes at the moment, they have plenty of pullovers/sweatshirts for Foundation children. Please remind your children that uniform hats are still a requirement as the danger of skin cancer is just as great in the winter. We ask for your co-operation in this matter. Yours sincerely, Mrs. M. Turlik
